Storytelling for Educational Leaders
Paul Facteau, Apple Inc.
Great storytellers compel us. They make us want to keep listening. In many ways great storytelling is a superpower, but not one that needs to be limited to a select few. Storytelling is a skill you can develop and refine through specific approaches and practices.
In this session you will create stories that link people to the vision for your organization, where they can see themselves as critical role players in achieving common goals. To do this we will identify ways to create a hook, keep people engaged, and motivate them to take action.
Everyone has a great story. Use yours to lead your community in ways that connect heads and hearts to the mission of serving your scholars.

The 24-Hour Rule: The Life-Altering Impact of Pause In a Hyperactive World
What are the long-term consequences of living in a constant state where only fleeting moments often separate stimulus and response; where a device and its provocations overwhelm our cognitive abilities to inquire, analyze, and evaluate? Best-selling author, entrepreneur, and researcher, C.L. Fred introduces a simple notion that can change a course of action, improve and strengthen relationships, reduce stress and even save lives. Based on 12,678 days of research, the 24-Hour Rule helps create a barrier against the persistent and perilous stimulus of a hyperactive world. This safety zone, as Fred highlights, sometimes only requires a few seconds, in other situations, a night of sleep. But a deliberate pause, especially by people in a position of authority, can have a lasting and positive impact.
